EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A 44-year-old Evansville woman was arrested Monday after deputies say she neglected several animals and a child.

Around 2 p.m., first responders were called to a home in the 6400 block of Upper Mt. Vernon Road for a man having a medical emergency.

Deputies say when they arrived, they could smell the odor of trash, feces and a decaying animal.

According to an affidavit, the home was covered in garbage and animal feces.

Additionally, deputies say there was no running water in the home and mold was growing in the fridge.

Deputies say they found a dead dog in the kitchen, and dead cat underneath it.

A resident of the home, Katherine E. Fuchs, allegedly told detectives the dog had been dead for at least six days.

A child who appeared to be underweight and several other animals were also inside the home.

Katherine E. Fuchs was arrested and faces seven counts of Neglect of an Animal and one charge of Neglect of a Dependent.
