Woman fined for riding with dog strapped to chest on Sunshine Coast

A motorbike rider is in the doghouse after being pulled over by police on the Sunshine Coast with a furry companion strapped to her chest.

The fluffy pooch was seen sitting behind the handlebar of a motorbike riding through Alexandra Headland on Saturday, at about 2pm.

Queensland police officers on “paw” patrol pulled the 35-year-old Maroochydore woman over on Alexandra Pde and issued her with a $376 traffic infringement notice for riding with an animal between her arms.

“We know how attached some people are to their pets, but it’s best to apply a paws-off approach when it comes to our roads,” Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho said.

“The rider had purchased the harness online and did not think through the safety implications, particularly if the dog were to react to other road users, pedestrians or animals.

“This could place the rider and her pooch in harm’s way or put other motorists at risk.

“Although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike, we urge riders to practice safe and responsible behaviour on our roads.”
