WOODBRIDGE — Officials charged a pet owner with animal cruelty Saturday after officers seized dozens of dogs and cats that were living in what were described as “horrid” conditions, officials said.
The Woodbridge Regional Animal Control became aware of the situation at 5 a.m. when the pet owner attempted to surrender 20 dogs at the shelter on Bradley Road, according to a post on the agency’s Facebook page.
Officials said the owner also agreed to hand over the pets at their residence, which included three additional dogs, 20 cats and kittens and a single guinea pig. Officials did not describe the pet’s conditions, but photos posted online show several dogs with dirty and wet fur.
Animal control officials did not identify the pet owner or specify the number of charges they face. They said the agency was assisted by officials in North Haven, East Haven, and Bridgeport.
