Recently we took our black cat Nyx to the vet to get the claws trimmed back. They had the curvature of fishhooks. While waiting before and then after it was done, I humorously call the procedure her mani-pedi. But the joke did raise the questions. Is there such a thing as a pet mani-pedi? And what other goofy services are out there for pets?
A quick web search gave the first answer and gave me an eye roll. Yes, there is such a thing as mani-pedis for dogs. I doubt any cat would put up with that. And really, what self-respecting dog actually wants painted toenails? C'mon owners.
That evening I looked online for other services available for pets. We already know there's a whole aisle in the grocery stores for dogs, cats and then other animals. There are whole shopping centers for the variety of pets. What else is out there?
Downtown Billings does have the Pet Passages cremation service to provide a dignified treatment for a loving pet who passed away. They can arrange funeral services for the family with a funeral director, a fitting memorial and even bereavement counseling. Okay, this is a beneficial business for folks who truly love the animals like they're family. So I can't be critical of this. There is also A Treasured Friend pet crematorium and monument company. Have a grave marker in the back yard or flower bed.
Forget Aunt Rose, I want to know what messages Buttercup can tell me from the afterlife. Oh Pul-ease, there are countless other things to spend your money on than a pet psychic. This just screams scam. The only real benefit I can see from this is if dearly departed Rover knows which field Farmer Saul buried the coffee cans filled with cash.
Sorry, Nyx, but if I'm paying for a massage, IT WILL BE FOR ME!!!
Your veterinarian should be able to give some insight, but sometimes an owner needs an animal behaviorist. My first surprise in the research is that there are specialists in animal psychology, with certifications. My second shock was the costs for their services: from $100-300 per hour, to $5,000 to $20,000 for extensive sessions.
Suddenly I need the counseling…
You can make arrangements and set up an endowment so Fluffy can enjoy her golden years in a comfortable retirement community. Seriously?? I get it, owners may have passed on or moved into assisted living, and other family not available. But really, an old pets home?? Gentle Reader, I have great faith the local animal shelter can find a loving new home for Fluffy at a fraction of the cost.
Actually, sildenafil is given to dogs and cats to lower blood pressure. Remember, seek veterinarian care for a… you know… lasting more than four hours.
