Do you ever get sad just thinking about the pets sitting in animal shelters?

Same.

Since many of us (against our wishes) can’t adopt 500 dogs, here’s a way you can make a dog’s day with less of a commitment.

Louisville Metro Animal Services lets people take shelter dogs on “field trips.” The program was on a brief hiatus during the pandemic, but it is back!

So here’s how it works: Anyone who wants to participate has to attend at least one orientation class, for which you need to make an appointment.

Once that is complete, volunteers can take a dog on a field trip for a minimum of one hour as many times as they’d like.

“Take a dog to the park, a dog-friendly, local business or to your home. Share a grilled cheese sandwich while binge-watching your favorite show and enjoy a peaceful nap…the possibilities are endless!” LMAS says.

LMAS will provide all of the necessary supplies, including leash, harness, treats, bowls and doggy seat belt.

The LMAS shelter is located at 3528 Newburg Road. Look inside the facility in the player above.
