The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County.

Gail

Gail
If you are looking for a sweet, loyal, and affectionate dog, then look no further than Gail. Gail came to the shelter as a stray. The staff thinks she is a German shepherd mix, weighing about 48 pounds, with an estimated birthdate of July 2020.

Because she is young, she has lots of energy. The shelter staff tries to keep her calm as she is heartworm positive. She will be going through treatment at the Humane Society’s expense. During treatment, she will need a place to hang out and chill; she might need to be crated if she is too playful. Dogs going through treatment do very well in a foster-to-adopt situation; it allows time to get to know them and bond in a quiet place.

Gail would do best in a home with older children who understand that she needs to be on exercise restrictions until her heartworm treatment is complete and she has a negative heartworm test. Also, she would do best in a home with no other animals that could get her too worked up.

Gail can go on walks, maybe a bit shorter walks than other dogs, but she still loves it nonetheless. She is a very sweet and loving girl and really enjoys the company of her human friends at the shelter.

Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $180, prison dogs are $250, puppies are $300, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17; this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

Binks

Binks
This is the beautiful Binks. This lovely lady came to the shelter through no fault of her own. Her previous owner was unable to care for her. This beauty has an estimated birthdate of Nov. 10, 2022. She is the first kitty that greets visitors to the cat room.

She is a super sweet girl, with a love for fun. She has a blast with toys, her favorites being stuffed nice and anything with feathers. She can be shy at first, but she warms up quickly and rewards you with lots of purrs. Binks is the best of both worlds as she likes snuggling on the couch or a warm lap just as much as she likes playing.

Because Binks is so young, shelter staff think she would do just fine in most any home, whether she is the only cat or in a home with other furry family members. She likes other cats at the shelter, and she currently has free roam in the shelter’s cat room.

Adoption fees for cats are $100 for kittens up to 6 months old and $80 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test (if old enough), spay or neuter, a Home Again microchip, a set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
