CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Staff with a local nonprofit say a young, emaciated dog has died after being found in Cedar Rapids and rushed to a pet hospital for treatment.
Staff with Last Hope Animal Rescue say the dog, named Vincent, was found on E Avenue on the northwest side of Cedar Rapids.
Vincent was emaciated, covered in mange and barely alive.
The nonprofit rushed Vincent to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital in Cedar Rapids to try and stabilize him.
Testing by the care team at Blue Pearl showed Vincent’s glucose levels were very low, he was septic and severely dehydrated.
“Our efforts to provide care were just too late, Vincent’s poor body has endured long term suffering and he did not respond to treatment in the manner that we had all so desperately hoped for. We held Vincent in our arms and tearfully let him go,” staff with Last Hope Animal Rescue said in a Facebook post on Friday.
Last Hope said the level of abuse and neglect this dog suffered happened over a period of months.
They’re asking that anyone who recognizes the dog make a confidential report.
The nonprofit has reported this to the Cedar Rapids Police Department and Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control.
