It’s not against the law for someone to bring their pup inside a grocery store or restaurant (unless outright banned by the establishment, I suppose), but in Washington, there are certain places where dogs are not allowed by state law.
I don’t have a dog, but I so wish that I did. We have a documented emotional support cat named Fluffy. I got him a cat backpack so that my daughter Willow can carry him around in public without it becoming a sanitary hazard.
Fluffy is allowed to come with us to the local brewery or trick or treating, though.
My young daughter who is 13 begs me to get a St. Bernard almost every day, but we’re not allowed to have one where we live in our apartment, unless it is a documented emotional support pup.
Most people who bring their dogs to restaurants, breweries, wineries, and coffee shops, let them relax outside on the patio or on the deck. If you are a dog owner, are you aware of the five places your dog is not allowed to be in Washington state?
I get that some people don’t want to leave their pet in the car, especially during heat wave season or extreme cold temps, but having your dog (or other animal with fur) inside a place that serves food? I just find that to be an odd choice. We don’t want all that pet hair in our food, I’m just saying.
We expect to see service dogs inside restaurants and grocery stores, as they assist the visually impaired. It’s the dogs not on leashes, sitting inside the shopping carts, or being pulled up onto a dining table that make my eyes go big with astonishment!
