YWAC to help take in animals evacuated from Los Angeles fire

According to the rescue group, it needs foster homes for more than 60 dogs currently in its care.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Thousands of people are without a home as firefighters continue battling wildfires in California. The Palisades fire has burned more than 23,000 acres and is about 59% contained as of Monday evening.

Many people are still unable to return to their homes, and that also includes their pets. However, these animals may have quite a distance to travel to reach a new and safe location.

Leaders with the Young Williams Animal Center in Knoxville said they are preparing to take in some evacuated animals from Los Angeles shelters. According to the rescue group, it needs foster homes for more than 60 dogs currently in its care.

“The national shelter community comes together during times like this to help each other and make sure rescued animals have a safe place to go,” the center said.

YWAC said it would provide all the necessary supplies so foster families would not have to pay to take care of the pets. They also said those interested can donate items to the shelter to help as they prepare to take in more pets.
