A rabies case has been confirmed in a stray dog in Strășeni, which previously had an owner. In response, local authorities have imposed a 30-day quarantine starting from March 11 to prevent the spread of the disease, IPN reports.

The Straseni Municipality, alongside experts from the Territorial Food Safety Subdivision and the Public Health Center, has enforced strict protective measures. These include disinfecting the affected area, vaccinating pets within a 3 km radius, monitoring animals susceptible to infection, and implementing public safety precautions.

Residents are urged to vaccinate their pets, avoid contact with unknown animals, and report any suspicious animal behavior. In case of a bite, individuals should immediately wash the wound with soap and water and seek medical attention.

This rabies case is not an isolated incident in Moldova. In recent months, three other outbreaks have been confirmed: one in a cow in Puhaceni, Anenii Noi, and two in foxes in Edinet and Anenii Noi districts.

Experts warn that rabies is a fatal disease, and prevention is crucial for protecting public health.

Meanwhile, authorities are continuing efforts to adopt an animal protection law, which includes the establishment of animal shelters. The law is expected to be approved in its second reading between April and May, potentially helping to manage stray animals and reduce the risk of future cases.
