(KRON) — A good Samaritan in Antioch called about a stray dog who “got stuck in the canal,” Antioch Animal Services said on Thursday.
Animal services said that for almost two weeks, a pair of “scruffies” had been running around in the vicinity of the Twin Creeks Apartments on James Donlon Boulevard in Antioch.
Despite a citizen being able to secure one of the “scruffies,” the other dog seemed harder to pin down, often running away from anyone attempting to approach him, animal services said.
Earlier this week, the dog trapped himself by falling down into the canal and “luckily” getting wedged in the framework of the bridge, animal services said.
Officials from the canal’s safety team provided animal services access to the canal, as well as “trendy blue jackets,” animal services said.
“Slowly but precisely,” animal services were able to secure the “terrified” dog and avoid him falling into the water or injuring himself.
All of Antioch Animal Service’s lost/found and adoptable pets are listed at 24petconnect.com, filtered by ZIP code 94509. Adoption fees are waived during April, thanks to Antioch Friends of Animal Services.
