New Delhi: A man allegedly thrashed an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly asking him to keep his dog on leash in south Delhi’s Aya Nagar. The 30-year-old victim was also bitten multiple times by his dog, police said on Monday. The incident took place on February 15 while the victim informed the police about the matter on February 16.
The victim, identified as Bhrim Singh, was on his way to work when his neigbour’s dog started barking at him. When he asked the owner to keep the canine on a leash, the accused thrashed him while his dog bit him on one of his legs, face and a hand. The accused has been identified as Jiwan Jyoti. An FIR has been registered in the matter at Fatehpur Beri police station.
“When I left home at around 12.30 pm, my neighbour Jiwan Jyoti was on the street with his dog. As the canine was barking at me, I asked the owner to keep the dog on a leash,” the victim said in his complaint. Angered by this, Jyoti physically assaulted Singh and his dog bit him multiple times. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered against the dog owner under sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 341 ( wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
Delhi has witnessed a string of dog attacks since the turn of the year. Earlier on Saturday, a two-year-old girl died after a pack of stray dogs allegedly attacked her in the Dhobhi Ghat area of New Delhi’s Tughlaq Lane. Last month, a pet dog allegedly attacked a two-year-old girl in northeast Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar. In another incident, a seven-year-old boy suffered injuries after a Pitbull allegedly attacked him in northwest Delhi’s Mahendra Park area. An American Bully allegedly attacked a seven-year-old girl in the he Shahbad Dairy area when she was playing near her home.
