Celebrating Adopt a Shelter Pet Day in Florida


To celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, WPBF 25 is shining a light on the tireless efforts of South Florida animal rescues and highlighting their biggest needs from our community.Tri-County Animal Rescue: Boca Raton”Adopt Don’t Shop” is the message from shelter leaders at Tri-County. They constantly have various purebred dogs of all ages because an increasing number of people are surrendering their pets.Suzi Goldsmith, the CEO and founder of Tri-County, said this is often because they simply can’t afford to feed or care for them any longer.Click here to adopt, foster or volunteer at Tri-County.Treasure Coast Humane Society: Palm CityTo continue helping animals on the Treasure Coast, shelter leaders at the Humane Society say they need more foster homes.Their ‘Promote a Pet’ foster program is designed to help dogs decompress from the shelter environment in a comfortable home while they wait for a forever home.HSTC also has several “critters” available for adoption. Kitten season started and there are several kittens arriving weekly that require bottle feeding.The shelter provides all of the necessary supplies and training to foster families.On June 8th, the veterinary staff at Peggy Adams will be doing a 500-cat TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate and release) spay day.Click here to learn more about adopting, fostering or volunteering at Peggy Adams.Furry Friends Adoption Center and Ranch: Jupiter and Palm CityFurry Friends takes in the most at-risk pets from local Animal Care and Control centers of all local rescues.On May 11 at 10 a.m., the shelter is hosting a bottle-feeding class to help people learn how to foster kittens.The class will be held at the Furry Friends Jupiter shelter and is designed to help people get involved with fostering and feel more comfortable with young kittens.The shelter also needs more volunteers, particularly at its Palm City ranch.Click here to learn more about the shelter, adopting or fostering from Furry Friends.
