A 56-year-old is charged after London police say a man assaulted a couple he knew before forcibly taking their dog.
It was about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday when city police say a man and woman were walking their dog in the 300 block of Wellington Road – just north of Base Line Road East, and adjacent to Old South – and a man approached them from behind and assaulted the man walking the pooch.

The man then approached the woman, who was holding the dog, police said, and “struggled” with her before taking the pet and walking away. Police did not make clear the nature of the relationship between the man and the couple.
The victims called police and gave officers descriptions of the man and the dog, police said, adding that the incident was captured on video surveillance.
It was about 1:50 p.m. on Thursday, police said, when officers found the man and placed him under arrest. The man who was assaulted suffered minor injuries, police said, and the dog was returned to the couple.
A 56-year-old man from London is charged with one count of assault. He is expected to appear in London court on June 11 to respond to the charge, police said.
Rainy weekend looms for London
The April showers are continuing into the first weekend of May in London, according to the Environment Canada forecast.
The national weather agency was calling for a 60 per cent chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, coupled with daytime highs of roughly 15 C both days. The rainy weather is expected to last well into next week, with sunshine not in the forecast until Thursday.
