Four starving dogs crawling with fleas were seized Monday from a home in Deansboro, according to the CNYSPCA.
The CNYSPCA’s investigation is ongoing and will likely lead to an arrest, according to a statement from the CNYSPCA, which has custody of the dogs and is treating them.
Photos of the dogs show the prominence of their bones on their emaciated frames, apparently infected sores and fleas everywhere on patches of white fur. Many of the photos were too disturbing to publish.
“This is just cruelty for the sake of cruelty,” CNYSPCA Director Troy Waffner said. “No animal deserves to be treated like this and there is no excuse for it – there are pet food pantries and other options to make sure your pets are getting fed.”
The CNYSPCA has a contract with Oneida County to investigate animal cruelty cases.
The CNYSPCA’s goal is to adopt out all four dogs, but first they will need extensive care and rehabilitation, which could take a few months, according to the statement.

“As sad as these cases are, the silver lining is that we have got the dogs here,” Waffner added. “We will attend to their medical needs and we will get them into a family where they can live their best lives.”
The nonprofit is asking for donations to help pay for the dogs’ medical care.
The CNYSPCA is located at 5878 East Molloy Road, Syracuse and donations can be made on its website. https://cnyspca.org/donate/.
