Destructive dogs listed for adoption after causing $350k in damage at local dealership – Houston Public Media

G Motors at FM 1960

A couple of stray dogs that wreaked havoc at a northwest Houston car dealership are in custody and up for adoption.

The dealership incident goes back to November when the pair of nutty pups were caught on surveillance cameras damaging vehicles in the parking lot of G Motors on FM 1960, tearing bumpers off of cars, scratching paint and jumping on top of the vehicles in the night.

Over the course of the next month, the stray dogs damaged more vehicles, causing a total of about $350,000 in damage, finance manager Imran Haq told KTRK. After Haq contacted BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, the dogs were brought into the animal shelter and put up for adoption in early December.

Haq told KTRK that the dogs caused the car dealership to lose customers. He said that the brown dog was the more aggressive one, and the black dog was “more of a follower.”

One of the dogs, named Dasher, a neutered brown and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix, was brought into the shelter on Dec. 8 last year. Shelter staff estimates Dasher to be about four years old.

Dasher was cleared by the shelters’ medical staff and didn’t show any signs of aggression.

The unnamed “follower” dog is a German Shepherd mix, currently unnamed and estimated to be about 4 years old. He is in custody at BARC and is currently up for adoption.

It’s still not known why the strays pursued a phase of unhinged vehicular destruction, but employees at BARC suspect the pair could’ve been chasing stray cats in the parking lot of the car dealership, KTRK reported.

BARC is the city of Houston’s municipal animal shelter and receives more than 15,000 animals each year. Animals available for adoption can be found on the “Adopt a Pet” webpage on the city’s website.
