A Slovakian pet owner is facing a fine after a traffic camera caught his dog sitting at the wheel of his car on a highway, apparently driving over the speed limit, according to reports.
In a statement posted to Facebook, police recounted that the officers were taken aback when the photo appearing to show the dog as the only occupant in the car landed on their radar.
“Instead of a picture of the driver, a brown hunting dog was seen smiling beautifully into the camera, sitting obediently behind the wheel of a Å koda, gazing through the windshield at promising young deer,” the post read.Â
According to Business Insider, the canine was caught driving 6.8 miles per hour above the speed limit.
The driver, 31, told law enforcement that the dog had jumped onto his lap during the drive, but the police found no evidence of any sudden movements inside the car when reviewing the footage, The New York Post reported.Â
The driver received a fine immediately following the incident. However, the amount of the fine was not disclosed nor was the fact if the fine was for speed or improper transportation of a dog, according to The New York Post.Â
The police concluded their post by advising drivers to be cautious when traveling with their pets, reiterating that animals of any size can pose safety hazards. “Even a small animal can jeopardize your life and well-being while driving,” the police wrote.Â
