Dog Hit by Train Rescued After Spending 3 Days Stuck on Train Tracks

An injured dog is starting the healing process after spending three days stuck between train tracks in Oklahoma.

According to a Facebook post from the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office, local authorities rescued a dog from Wagoner train tracks on March 27.

The deputies found the dog after receiving a call about an injured animal on the tracks.

“Upon arrival, Deputy Hutton observed that a large dog had been hit by a train and was stuck in between the railroad tracks. Wagoner Police Department Captain B. Harding arrived a short time later to assist with rescuing the animal,” the agency wrote in its post.

The sheriff’s office also shared a video from the rescue in the post. In the clip, the rescuers wrap the large dog, who is lying between two railroad tracks, in a blanket and lift the canine into a UTV. The officials also comfort the dog during the rescue, calling the pet a “good boy.”

After the officials loaded the dog into the UTV, which was required because a patrol unit could not reach the area, they took the pet to a roadway nearby.

While on the roadway, the official rendezvoused with one of the dog’s family members “who took possession of the dog and transported it to a local veterinary for treatment.”

“It was discovered that the animal had been injured by a train three days prior to being located and could not free itself,” the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office added on social media.

The agency concluded its post by wishing the dog a full recovery.

Authorities in Virginia also recently encountered dogs in dire conditions. On March 5, Henry County Animal Control officers helped rescue 11 German shepherd puppies found wandering “deep in the woods” of Virginia, according to a Facebook post from the Henry County Animal Shelter.

In the post, the shelter said the dogs were “terrified, starving and left to die.” Two puppies were adopted shortly after the rescue, while the 9 other dogs are recovering at the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue.
