Dog owner’s warning after pet was mauled to death while on daily walk in South Perth

A dog owner has told of the horrifying moment her pet was mauled to death in a vicious attack while on their daily walk.

Anne Poole’s husband Tony was walking their 12-year-old Moodle named Rubi in South Perth when two large dogs set upon them.

The dogs jumped at the 70-year-old’s face as Rubi slipped through her hardness and onto the ground.

The terrifying ordeal was caught on security cameras, showing how Rubi was attacked and then dragged out of view.

“Tony was trying to pull them off as he pulls it off the other dog is ripping and tearing her to pieces,” Mrs Poole told 7NEWS on Friday.

The attack took less than a minute, but that was enough time to inflict horrific injuries.

(Rubi suffered) a ruptured spleen, a ruptured kidney, fractured vertebrae, punctured abdominal wall, her muscles were torn from the bones,” Mrs Poole said.

The owners spent $17,000 for surgery, but Rubi died two days later.

And despite the attack being caught on CCTV, the dogs responsible still have not been caught.

Mrs Poole printed out flyers and went door to door — warning the neighbourhood to stay vigilant — worried these dogs are still out there.

After the call-out, another person came forward, saying she had seen the same dogs attacking weeks earlier.

“The City (of South Perth) didn’t put out an alert which really really surprised me and I absolutely think they were in breach of their duty of care to this community,” Mrs Poole said.

“That could’ve been a baby in a pram, that could’ve been a child on a bicycle and I believe the risk is still there. These dogs are vicious.”

The City of South Perth said it undertook a range of measures but the dogs responsible for the attack could not be identified.

The investigation has closed due to a lack of active leads.
