Family displaced, pets killed in DC fire

WASHINGTON — A family is in mourning after three of their pets were killed and they were displaced from their home following an apartment fire early Saturday morning in Southwest D.C.

At 12:42 a.m., firefighters were sent to battle a fire in a second-floor apartment in the 300 block of P Street, SW.

Just 30 minutes after arriving on scene, firefighters were able to get the flames under control.

Unfortunately, one dog, one cat, and a fish died as a result of the apartment catching fire, DC Fire and EMS reports.  The two adults and a child living in the apartment were able to get out safely and remain unharmed. A second dog also reportedly survived.

The American Red Cross is helping the displaced family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A large fire engulfed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chevy Chase Monday afternoon.
