LAS VEGAS (KSNV) – A family in Las Vegas is mourning the loss of their six cats after a fire broke out at their house.
Aimee Yem said her family lost their home after their Tesla caught fire in the garage Sunday.
“I woke up and all of a sudden I’m running for my life, you know, and then I was … I remember that time I was praying, praying for the fire truck to come because we still have so many pets inside,” she said.
The greatest loss the family suffered was losing their six cats to the fire.
“They’re all siblings, all from the same mom,” Yem said.
The other homeowner, Andrew Baek, said he and Yem tried their best to save the cats, but the fire happened in a flash.
Yem said she attempted to rescue the cats, but when the fire alarm sounded, they all escaped from her and fled under a bed.
The family still has no answers on how the fire started.
“We didn’t have anything in the garage,” Yem said. “So, it was for us right now, it’s a puzzle. But we know that seeing from the fire, it was Tesla that would just keep firing.”
The family went inside the home after the fire was put out, attempting to salvage what they could.
“It’s heartbreaking. You know, working so hard for all that and one day is perfectly normal and the next is up in flames, literally. You know, you see it in movies and all that but never thought that I could just really happen to us,” Baek said.
Yem said the loss is especially difficult for Baek, who is an interior designer.
The family is not sure they can ever return to the place they called home now.
“It’s the what ifs that kill, you know,” Baek said, “For now, I’m just grateful we’re able to do what we can. I’m grateful that my girls are out at least, you know. That’s the most I can ask for.”
The fire department is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
