A vet has opened up about the tragic death of his own dog in the hopes of sparing other pet owners from the same heartbreak.
Amir revealed in a TikTok video that his dog Nala died more than a year ago when she was strangled by her own collar.
He has previously been unable to speak about it because it makes him so emotional to discuss.

“But now I want to tell you guys what happened so you can be careful and be aware because I don't want any of you to end up in the same situation,” he said.
The incident occurred while Amir was out for a jog, however, he'd left his phone in the car and his brothers were also not at home.
After the run he looked at his phone to find about 60 calls, including from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), asking where he was and letting him know his neighbours were “freaking out” about his dog.

Once Amir got home he saw a small crowd gathered and soon spotted his two dogs with one dog's mouth close to the other's neck.
“I go closer and I inspect and what I saw was – this is insane – the collar around my one dog's neck – who at this point, she was actually dead, she was suffocated – had twisted, and they liked to bite on each other's collars.
“The collar had gotten underneath the other dog's lower jaw and had turned, so probably while they were fighting she was thrashing her neck and turning around… it twisted so tight that it was suffocating the other dog. It was also too tight for her to get off because it was behind both of her canines (teeth).”

Amir added that when the dog tried to get the collar off to free the other pooch, it just got tighter. He ended up having to cut the collar to remove it.
Amir ended his video with a warning for pet owners.
“It's important to make sure if your dogs play with each other at home and they like biting on each other's collars be very careful,” he said, adding that biting on collars causes them to loosen making it easier for collars to get caught on something.
The vet suggested taking dog collars off when you leave the dogs alone at home to prevent this. Some pet owners suggested in the comments of his TikTok that using a breakaway collar is also good option.
