Celebrate the Halloween season with your pet at the annual Mutts & Strays/Pet Trick or Treating event takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 28 at Fullerton-Garitty Park, located at 3201 McKnight Ln.
Presented by the Humane Society of Navarro County, the event will have prizes for First, Second and Third place in a Pet Costume Contest, plus a free hot dog dinner. Guests are encouraged to bring a Halloween bucket to collect all of the HSNC’s Pet Trick or Treating goodies filled with pet specific treats.
“This event has been going strong for 10-plus years,” HSNC office manager and board member Erin Abay said. “We aim to have a fun, pet friendly event that really celebrates our community and all of the support they continue to show us year after year. Originally called ‘Mutts & Strays Family Reunion,’ where rescue pets, their owners and HSNC supporters gathered for an appreciation dinner, the event has evolved into a Halloween extravaganza that’s mission is still to celebrate our supporters and the animals that mean so much to all of us.”
“We will be having a Pet Costume Contest with prizes, Blessing of the Animals, Pet Trick or Treating and a free hot dog dinner,” Abay added. “It’s free for the community to attend. We ask that all pets be friendly and leashed.”
For those who wish to volunteer with the event the HSNC will need help with set up beforehand, plus during and after the event. Interested participants can contact the humane society by emailing admin@thehsnc.org or texting 903-519-3570.
