Pet owners share hilarious snaps of their spaced-out cats and dogs after a trip to the vet

When we invite an animal into our home, they quickly become part of the family and we treat their health with paramount importance.

Beloved pets may need to visit the vet for a number of reasons throughout their lives – either for routine procedures like spaying and neutering in early life, to other medical treatment further down the line.

Thanks so hardworking vets we can, for the most part, know that our furry friends are in safe hands when we drop them off at the animal hospital.

But when they come home, it takes a little bit of time for them to return to their most alert selves.

Cat and dog owners from around the world have shared hilarious snaps of their pets after picking them up from the vet – before the sedatives have fully worn off.

Paws up! Pet owners from around the world have shared photos of their furry friends looking a little worse for wear after visiting the vet, such as this cat who looks spaced out

A collection of photos on Cheezburger.com shows some very spaced-out animals who seem to have no idea they have just been operated on.

In fact, they seem to be unaware of anything at all.

Here, FEMAIL reveals some of the funniest photos of beloved pets after their trip to the vet…

Which way is up? This cat has been sent home with a cone around its neck but it has managed to turn the protective measure inside out, and appears itself to be upside down

The lights are on, but no one is home: This pooch may have its eyes open, but there’s very little going on behind them

This feline has fought valiantly to keep its eyes open following a visit to the vet – but it appears to be losing the fight

Time for another snooze! This dog has fallen asleep in the back of the car on the way home – and he looks like he is having the best nap of his life

This pooch was wrapped up in its favourite onesie when it returned home from the vet – although it probably doesn’t quite understand that

This little tabby cat, who still had a couple of shaved patches on its arms, couldn’t quite manage to stay upright

An adorable terrier who had been bandaged up after its operation, wasn’t able to close its mouth

That’s not the bath! This cat didn’t notice its paws were in the water bowl as it stared intently at a blank spot on the wall
