Photographer hosts Pooch Portrait Playoffs to raise money for Fort Lupton dog rescue

KEENESBURG, Colo. (KDVR) — A photographer based out of northeast Colorado is spreading the word about her pet portrait competition.

“My husband and I have always been super passionate about rescue animals,” Wendy Fleming said in an interview with FOX31 Sunday.

Fleming, who owns Fleming Portraits, is calling for the cutest “ulti-mutt” cutie of Colorado to have their professional portraits taken by her and then entered into a mock March Madness bracket where the community can vote for the winner.

“We decided that giving back is something that is so important, and we really want to give back and make it a fun competition where the public can enter and vote,” Fleming said.

She said she will be taking the pictures on her own time and it costs pup owners a $99 donation to compete. She said the proceeds donated will go to Soul Dog Rescue in Fort Lupton.

“It just makes it a really fun way to get awareness for Soul Dog and create a fun event for our community,” Fleming said.

The competition vote bracket will start on March 19th, so all applications must be submitted before then.

Fleming said the local winner will receive a prize and then advance to the national competition. She said other photographers all over the world are participating in this event.

Here is what your $99 donation includes:

  • A pet portrait session (location sponsored by K9cation)
  • An acrylic keychain with your favorite photo from the session
  • A swag bag from local businesses
  • A spot in the upcoming, online bracket-style competition in March

More information can be found on Fleming’s website.
