Police shoot dog dead at Trigg Beach while arresting suspect after it attacks two smaller canines

Police have been forced to shoot and kill a dog in the carpark of a popular Perth beach.

The horrible incident unfolded after police were called to the carpark of Trigg Beach about 7pm on Tuesday to do a welfare check.

They found a woman, who was with a dog, and she down a beach track.

Police said the dog became aggressive towards them, so they used their capsicum spray on it and proceeded to arrest the woman.

However, during the arrest the dog attacked two smaller canines that were walking with their owner nearby.

It forced officers to shoot dead the attacking animal.

One of the smaller dogs suffered serious injuries and was taken to the vet for emergency medical assistance.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.

It comes after police officers shot dead a dog at a home in Stratton in January.

Police were at the home of former Aussie Gold Hunter star Rob Dale to arrest a suspect in relation to an ongoing investigation when a dog launched at officers.

The dog, Monty, was shot dead after a female police officer suffered bites to her legs and arms. The arrested suspect was had bites to his legs.

In September 2023, police were also forced to fatally shoot a pet Rottweiler.

A Success woman narrowly escaped death, and losing her arm, after her Rottweilers — Harlem and Bronx — viciously mauled her inside her home.

Police were called to Nikita Piil’s home after neighbours heard her blood-curdling screams.

Neighbour Bryn Spencer described the terrifying events of the day, saying he and another neighbour heard Ms Piil’s screams for about 10 minutes before they intervened.

He, and other neighbours, said they attempted to stop the attack but couldn’t access her property without endangering themselves.

Officers were forced to use lethal force and shoot Ms Piil’s dog Bronx after their desperate attempts to taser and lead the dog away failed to stop the attack. The other rottweiler, Harlem, was secured in the garage before it was taken away by rangers.

However, Ms Piil later decided to have Harlem euthanised.
