EAST MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) -Purina is excited to be bringing Spot the Robot Dog to JA Inspire Career Expo as a way to wrap up the Purple Leash Project Initiative for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (observed in October).

The 2024 JA Inspire Career Expo Quad Cities is set to be held Nov. 14-15 at The Bend XPO. Each day will have two sessions from 9 to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event hosted by Junior Achievement of the Heartland is a hands-on, interactive career expo experience to help 8th grade students launch into their futures. JA Inspire provides students the opportunity to connect with local businesses, participate in interactive exhibits, and explore career pathway.

Spot the Robot Dog

Spot the Robot Dog, developed by Boston Dynamics, represents the pinnacle of robotic innovation. Known for its agility, versatility, and advanced sensing capabilities, Spot is a marvel of modern engineering. Designed for a variety of applications, Spot can navigate complex environments, perform automated tasks, and even assist in search and rescue missions.

Purple Leash Project

Nearly a decade ago, Purina was made aware of the difficult decision many abuse survivors with pets are forced to make: stay with an abuser or leave a beloved pet behind. It seemed unfair that pets, who may be the only source of unconditional love and support for a survivor, weren’t considered.

Purina decided to help. Purina helped one of the largest domestic violence shelters in the U.S. to become a leading voice and shining example of pet-friendly sheltering. The creation of the PAWS Act Coalition was made in support of the Pets and Women Safety (PAWS) Act, which helps domestic abuse survivors and their pets by advocating for federal resources.

The goal is to help ensure at least 25 percent of U.S. domestic violence shelters offer pet-friendly services by the end of 2025. Grants totaling $1.5 million to 52 shelters across the country has already been given and nearly every state has at least one pet-friendly shelter.

In the Quad Cities, the Davenport factory team dedicated a night out at the Quad City Storm to Purple Leash Project, telling all guests about the cause and passing out free treats and Purple Leashes. We also worked to change the bridge purple, to bring awareness to all those affected by Domestic Violence.
