The best dog-friendly five-star hotels

You could be sitting at a glamorous hotel drinking a martini alone or you could be doing the same with your furry friend. These are the five-star hotels dispelling the myth that travelling with your dog has to mean sacrificing quality and comfort. At these Times Luxury-approved London hotels, pets are welcome to join you and will be treated to luxuries that will help them to enjoy the getaway as much as you. From personalised menus to ergonomic beds and doggy duvets, you and your dogs will be treated like royalty.

The Berkeley welcomes well-trained pets of all spots. Dogs will be offered a bed, bowl, towel and mat; if you send your pooch’s name to the hotel beforehand, these items can all be personalised. They also offer a dog wash, conditioner and spray for your room and can organise special food deliveries from the hotel restaurant. Pets aren’t welcome in the hotel’s restaurants or spas, but the hotel can arrange a professional pet service to take care of your dog during your stay if required.

Raffles London

You know your pup will be comfortable roaming around Raffles, where they will be greeted with a treat from the kitchen upon arrival, as well as food and water. They’ll also find their own blankets for the night waiting for them. Dogs are welcome in two of Raffles’ restaurants and bars, the Drawing Room and the Guards Bar. There’s no weight restrictions at Raffles, so all well-behaved dogs, from chihuahuas to chow chows, are welcome.

The Connaught

At the Connaught your pup will receive a personalised bath mat, dog bed and bowl plus a Connaught hound toy. Dogs are also welcome at the Connaught Patisserie, which makes dog-friendly biscuits from natural and organic ingredients at its “Pawtisserie”. These feature peanut butter and mashed banana. Your dog may never want to return home.

The Peninsula

Canine guests at the Peninsula enjoy lush dog beds, customised bowls and tailored room service menus, which include sausage, salmon or turkey options from the brand Caboodle, as well as lamb or chicken from Marleybones dog food service — all served with a delicious treat for dessert. Dogs are only allowed in the lobby, but there are also pet-sitting and pet-walking services available, so it’s unlikely they’ll be bored during their stay.

The Lanesborough

Well-behaved small to medium-sized dogs can join their owners for afternoon tea in the Withdrawing Room or for cocktails at the Library Bar at the Lanesborough in Knightsbridge. Upon checking in, dogs visiting the hotel are greeted with a welcome treat as well as their own bed, bowl, mat and lead. All the rooms at the Lanesborough, no matter the category, also have a personal butler provided, who is able to walk your dog through nearby Hyde Park or around Belgravia upon request. The hotel also offers a “Canine Connoisseur” doggy menu, which can be arranged to cater to your pet’s refined tastes. The menu includes everything from “Tail Wagging Toastadas” and “Labrador Lasagne” to “Poodle Noodles” as well as lighter bites, such as beagle bagels and kennel cakes.

Kimpton Fitzroy

The Kimpton Fitzroy goes above and beyond to make sure pets of all shapes and sizes feel welcome. In their words, “if your pet fits through the door, we’ll welcome them in”. They serve dishes from Marleybones, a company that makes dog food with human-quality meat and fish, and on the menu you’ll find Bloomsbury Bark (beef with sweet potato, kale and rosemary) and the Superbunny salad for vegetarian pets (bok choi, broccoli, fennel and basil). There are special extras such as plush pet beds in your guest room, water bowls and mats. Door hangers are available to let staff know your pet is in the room. Dog walking and daycare is looked after by the Hound Hut.

One Aldwych

One Aldwych welcomes small and medium-sized dogs to stay at the hotel, assuring guests that their pets will be “treated like royalty”. They just need to have passed their first birthday and be fully house-trained. Dogs will receive an ergonomic bed, bowl and towel while visiting. Having Bow Wow London nearby also means that treats will be provided from the grooming parlour and pet shop. Dogs may not be welcome in the restaurants but there will be no issue having them at your side in the Library, the hotel’s ground-floor lounge.

The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences

For £40 per dog per stay, the Athenaeum offers canine companions a hollow-fibre mattress, food and water bowls, and a dish from the “Mini Bar(k) Menu”, which includes steak tartare. For an extra fee you can also use dog sitting, grooming and walking services. At the end of your stay your four-legged friend will take home a fetching bow tie and a selection of tasty treats.

The Milestone Hotel

On arrival at the Milestone in Kensington your pet will receive a tailor-made welcome hamper and letter with information about the hotel’s special pet services. You will also have a choice of custom-made Milestone Hotel pet beds, cushions, duvets and floor mats. Food and water bowls will be available throughout your stay and there’s an in-house pet menu featuring delicious meals such as rib-eye steak and homemade peanut butter cookies. To ensure your dog gets the rest it deserves you’ll also receive a “do not disturb/pet sleeping” card.
