BRYAN, Texas (KBTX)- One year ago, The Three partnered with Long Way Home Adoptables to bring viewers a Pet of the Week every Tuesday!
Since then, the show has featured 58 Long Way Home rescue pets.
Out of all those dogs and cats, only a nine are still waiting to be adopted: Diane, Mona Lisa, Biscotti, Mellow Maple, Rory, Adelina, Uncle Traveling Matt, Erykah Pawdu and Shiadanni.
Together, The Three and Long Way Home Adoptables have been able to help countless dogs and cats find their perfect match.
“It just adds a new dimension. It’s something that we’ve never been able to offer our community before and pictures are great, social media is great, but there’s nothing like having a pet seen on video,” said Founder and Executive Director of Long Way Home Adoptables April Plemons. “Sometimes people are on the fence, and they see them in photos and it’s hard to connect, but being able to se them being held by you or being silly with Conner, it’s just a way to really give that personality a way to pop off screen.”
We caught up with some of our furry TV stars who found their forever homes.
Our first two pets of the week Aurelia and Jora, who are now Holly and Lily, found homes within The Three host Lauren Margolis’ own family.
The seven-week-old Chihuahua mix girls are now one years old.
“I cannot believe how much she’s grown. She was so tiny when she came and now she’s 16 pounds and just grew into herself,” said Lily’s owner Antoinette Ansalone. “I knew she would bring joy but I didn’t realize how much joy she would bring, and now that I have her I cannot picture my life without her.”
Lily is living in New York with Lauren’s aunts Antoinette and Stella Ansalone, and her grandmother Gilda Ansalone.
She also has a brother named Louis now, who was adopted from Long Way Home too!
“They are best buddies, they have their routine, they play all day, they sleep together and they’re just a lot of fun,” added Ansalone.
Lauren adopted Holly, Lily’s littermate, and said she fell in love the second she saw her on the set.
Lily and Holly’s littermate not featured on TV, Winnie, is also part of the Margolis family, enjoying life in Florida with Lauren’s parents and their two other Chihuahuas.
In September, The Three featured senior Shih Tzu Rajesh Koothrapali, named after a character from the hit TV show, Big Bang Theory.
He was adopted that same month by Brazos Valley resident Kristina McCollum and her two sons after they saw his handsome face on screen.
“My son was obsessed because his name is Rajesh and we’re Big Bang Theory fans, so it was a big conversation in our house about how cute he was,” said McCollum.
Just weeks after bringing Rajesh home, he gained a brother from Long Way Home.
McCollum adopted Tetris, who was also featured as a Pet of the Week, after seeing him at an event in town.
Tetris is now appropriately named Sheldon Cooper to match the Big Bang Theory theme.
“I think it’s really been good for Raj because at first when we got Raj, he wouldn’t play with like a lot of toys and stuff,” added McCollum. “He was more about cuddling, being in your lap, but now he’s like more playful and he chases Sheldon and Sheldon won’t leave him alone.”
Here’s to many more years of saving animals in the Brazos Valley and beyond!
