This Week’s Energetic Pet of the Week at the Animal Shelter Society – WHIZ

ZANESVILLE, OH – This week, the Animal Shelter Society has named Willow as their Pet of The Week.

Willow is a six-month-old female husky shepherd mix. With her expressive light brown eyes, wagging tail, and friendly disposition, she would make an excellent pet for anyone looking for a loyal companion. Due to her active nature, Willow is looking for a home that can provide plenty of outdoor space for her to run, play, and explore.

“We’re going to make sure she has a place to run. It’s great to have apartments and condos and dog parks, but she’s going to have to zoom energy every day. It’s going to be better for her, she’ll be better for the family, and that’s what we’re going to be looking for.” Animal Shelter Society Executive Director, April Gibson said.

As the shelter continues to find homes for pets like Willow, they also want to remind pet owners about the importance of keeping pets warm and safe during the colder months. The shelter advises providing warm, sheltered areas for pets, limiting their time to outdoors during extreme cold, and ensuring they have access to fresh, unfrozen water.

“If you could bring these animals in, that would be great. If not, please provide, the Ohio code says you do have to provide shelter for them and food and water. Make sure that the water is not frozen. Make sure you’re checking that several times a day. If it’s possible, get the plug-in heated bowls. We have a lot of folks that utilize them.” Gibson said.

The animal shelter specifically advices against using blankets for outdoor pets during cold weather, as blankets can freeze. Instead, the shelter suggests using straw and they have straw available for community members who need it for their pets.
