Gail was trying to save her pup when the water became too dangerous

Pets oftentimes mean a lot more to us than what others might expect and you’d go above and beyond to ensure their safety.

In December, one woman from Wales died whilst trying to save their family Labrador.

Gail Theresa Lloyd, 50, dove into a river on December 9 after her little dog fell in, in an attempt to pull him out.

But the conditions of the water swept her away right in front of her husband, Martin who battled to reach her in time.

It all began at Erddig Country Park in North Wales when Gail, Martin and their pooches were on a walk as usual.

Martin told the police that their labrador, Cadwy, jumped into the water and was struggling.

So, his wife entered the water after the animal.

Martin was walking ahead of his wife on the footpath when he turned around and saw her in the river and called to her to ‘get out’.

But as he rushed in to help her, he realised that she wasn’t upright and he ‘could not reach her’.

At that moment, William Cossins, a participant in a Parkrun, heard screaming and ran to assist with others.

With a rope attached to Martin’s wrist, they were able to help him back to the bank, but he was weak when they got to him from his attempts to save his wife.

The Daily Mail reported that William said: “It was too risky to go into the water myself.”

Shortly after the awful events, paramedics arrived and pronounced Gail dead on the scene and labelled it as an accidental death.

Kate Robertson, the assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central, said: “The circumstances are incredibly tragic.

“Tragically, in trying to rescue her dog Gail paid with her life.”

But this isn’t the only death involving a beloved pet as the body of Amanda Richmond Rogers, 45, was found in the Eagle River last month in Anchorage, US.

Her husband, Brian Rogers described to KTUU that the mother-of-four is remembered as a ‘hero’.

He shared that Amanda had been swept under the ice after their dog, Groot, fell through as he was trying to drink the water.

It was reported by her sister, Jennifer Richmond, that Amanda was found holding Groot’s body in her arms when authorities recovered her.

Brain wrote in a statement per the Daily News: “I yelled but doubt she even heard me as she was completely concentrating on saving the dog.

“Before I could get back to the opening to try and grab her I could see her SWIMMING downstream under the ice and then out of sight. I waited and waited and am still waiting.

“She did not jump in to save ‘just a dog,’ it was a family member,” he wrote.

“To me and our four boys she died a hero.”
