Tulsa police address violence, theft, and neglected pets in homeless encampment cleanup

The Tulsa Police Department (TPD) shared pictures of a homeless encampment officers cleaned up on Wednesday near 71st and Highway 169.

Police said they’ve responded to the area multiple times after citizens and nearby businesses reported issues including violence and assaults among the people living at the encampment, shots fired in the area, trash and debris, increased larcenies, loose dogs, aggressive panhandling, and harassment of citizens using the trail.

TPD said while officers were cleaning up the area, they found drugs, stolen property, and abandoned pets left behind and tied up.

Police said very few people were still living at the encampment.

TPD encouraged Tulsans in their Facebook post to help those experiencing homelessness by checking with local charities and organizations that provide shelter, services, and resources.

The Tulsa Day Center is open 24/7 and accepts volunteers and donations.
