Another one of the dogs seized from a Beekmantown animal rescue in February has died, according to the Elmore SPCA.
The organization posted an update on their Facebook page on Thursday, saying that Olivia, one of the 49 animals taken from A Canine Gem during a police operation, has died due to cancer.
Olivia, who had been under the care of the Elmore SPCA since Feb. 26, was one of the “jail dogs” who served as an ambassador to the media in the weeks following the dogs’ removal from the animal rescue, the post said.
Officials said Olivia had spent her last week with a new owner and was enjoying a new life after she and the other remaining animals seized from A Canine Gem were allowed to be adopted out.
Oscar, another dog that had been seized from a Canine Gem, had to be euthanized in February due to health concerns, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said.
Hilary Davis, the owner of A Canine Gem, pleaded not guilty to dozens of charges during a recent court appearance.
The organization thanked everyone who had helped to care for Olivia and the other dogs during this time.
