Target’s 3L Anko Small Fish Aquarium product making waves online for the wrong reasons

A recent addition to Target’s pet range has copped major backlash online after animal lovers claimed it breaches animal welfare standards.

The product — Anko’s Small Fish Aquarium — is a 3L fish tank with colour-changing LED lights and was spotted by a Reddit user recently.

A disappointed post featuring the product was shared to the platform expressing the shopper’s disdain for the item.

“Oh, Target,” it was captioned.

The item was marked as retailing for $15, with its restrictive proportions listed as 22cmh x 15cmw x 15cmd.

Some commenters mentioned they’d also seen the item for sale at Kmart, though the product link had since been removed from its website.

“My 13yo daughter saw these at Kmart the other day, she was REALLY angry. Going to report now.

“Edit to add: went to the Kmart website to get the product details, and the small tank isn’t on the website anymore,” revealed one person.

Another said: “I was browsing through thinking how cool it is that our local Target is now selling Anko and I don’t have to go to the busy, anxiety-inducing shopping centre anymore and then this suddenly appeared and ruined everything. Gross.”

A private Facebook group based in Perth shared the sentiment of Redditors, with many calling for the item to be discontinued.

The retailer does have “Apology Notice” and “Product Recall” links on its list of Customer Notices spanning back to 2010, but as this product is supposedly new to shelves, it’s currently unclear if any fault or feedback has been acknowledged.
